A while ago I started studying MPLS and specifically focusing on MPLS VPN, so I am quite new to the area. A couple of years back I had the chance to take part in a training class ran internally at the company I used to work for but at the time I was drawn into other interesting areas and I found the MPLS topic irrelevant to the direction I was going so I quit after a couple of sessions and honestly it all went over my head! But things have changed, and now I am really fascinated about MPLS now.
MPLS is great and there is a lot to it for everyone and makes you dive deep into some areas previously you thought you know well. MPLS is not just “MPLS” and it takes you into advance routing maters which are not common and if you get trouble with MPLS you will find the troubleshooting very very exciting and challenging.
Right now, I am more concerned about different ways that internet access can be delivered to MPLS VPN customers and what are the best practices for service providers and customers. It’s not one way that this can be done and every scenario has its own advantages and drawbacks.
Another area which I am interested and I have planned to get into it soon is the relationship between MPLS and IPv6 and how these two will coexists and if there are any caveats.
